I think instead of demand for a Western Sydney franchise, the people should start to call for a real club in the A-league. Yes - I think you would be surprised how many people would get behind Olympic - even non Greeks. I asked a few people I knew if they would support Olympic in the Gay League- and they said - as long as the "ethnic thing" isn't at the forefront they would. They would also support Olympic playing out of Belmore. What exactly are they talking about? Greeks supporting the team, hearing people speaking a foreign language at the games, or seeing people of a non Anglo-Saxon background?

As in they recognise it is a team with a Greek identity - but it moves to embrace the wider community who would support a 2nd Sydney team. Nothing new really - any new team would need to promote itself as a broader community based team for its own benefit. Offcourse this is not to forget who we are, and to be proud of it....and to use it as a strength. We compliment this with making new supporters feel welcome. Free souvlaki for all

ps - pure speculation off course - but don't discount the possibility of Ben Buckley offering a 2nd Sydney licence to Palmer should GC fold.
Don't get me wrong - Palmer may not accept - but he may get asked - in the same fashion Costantine was after he was ousted from the Jets.

Same old argument but; here have a franchise and put money in it for as long as you can...
Football clubs need to be built over time....if Sydney were to fold tomorrow no one would care....the only team which I would say wouldn't fit into that category is Perth.

Blaze - yes I agree -and Olympic represent tradition. If we ever make the Gay League- I would love for a massive banner to be held up by the crowd on its First Gay Leaguegame saying "Established 1957". Ultimately the FFA will need to focus its stance on ethnic teams and playing out of boutique stadiums. They will need to be brought to the negotiating table - and there are ways this can be done. Similarly if the FFA do happen to consider us they will want compromises. What they may be and if we are willing to accept them is a matter for Olympic and its fans.

Stadiums should have been capped at around 15K for the Gay Leaguefor the first 3 years....
A 15K stadium filled to around 12K looks heaps better than a 40K stadium with 12K attendance.
The result is that people would not only go to the games for the football but also to enjoy the atmosphere which would be heaps better than what can be generated now at the SFS when it's filled to about 25% of capacity. It would also mean that demand would potentially increase and people would rush to buy tickets and you'd also see an increase in season pass holders because people would want to cement their place within the ground. That strategy for the first three years would be enough to generate enough demand for a team so that when it comes time to move into a bigger stadium the crowds would increase instead of remaining the same.
The weaknesses with this strategy is that due to the franchises being so new, there is no hope of constructing any grounds to fit the above criteria, and moving from ground to ground would destabilise the fan base.
A Leoforos style stadium would be the best for the Gay Leagueteams. Take the existing stadium and seating plan and modernise it a bit also adding a roof and you'd have one of the best football stadiums in OZ for the A-league.
Olympic could do it if they got their hands on St George stadium as I don't see anyone knocking down Belmore. The only thing wrong with Belmore is that it's a rugby ground and as such it is difficult to generate an atmosphere which belongs at a football match.

Big stadiums like the SFS and Suncorp bleed their respective teams dry. The sad thing is the FFA had a precedence to go off. Not only did the old NASL fall flat (American Soccer League back in the 70's) - for (amongst other things) playing out of large stadiums they couldnt afford, but recommendations from at least two reports have been presented to the FFA about the benefits of playing out of boutique stadiums - for financial reasons - both ignored. Atmosphere too - as you mentioned is key. I think Belmore with say 6,000 plus people generated a good atmosphere. Especially in the main stand. Maybe not ideal - as there is a large grassed area - but perhaps this can be looked at (financial considerations not withstanding offcourse).

Belmore is noise with 6K....when I say atmosphere I mean fan generated atmosphere. Chants and banners and fun. Belmore can't achieve that as it is. Unless all of the 6K are Ultras.

Blaze - yes I think it can definately be improved - especially on the grassed area. Better seating / roofing to approve acoustics on the goal ends would help

A great signal of intent and way to draw attention to our cause would be to get a bay at SFS filled with Olympic fans - singing and chanting during a HAKOA game.
You will need at least 100 people for it to be effective though but it will make a statement.

But 100 free tickets no way any of us put money into hakoa's account I know Terry Macflyn - I can always ask him for them ahahaha! One way to get on tv though - to be put squarely in the publics attention and promote ourselves. The money is for the good of Olympic - but let me ask Terry
