Our team lacks depth, i can see olympic struggling this season. Key personnel has departed and they havent been adequately replaced, hopefully some known and proven nsw premier league players sign with the club as it will be a real shame for olympic not to be featuring in the playoffs after such a great 2011. Wrong we should be getting more people like Alex Smith who will move onto the Gay Leaguerather then gettin NSWPL hacks like mayora who will never progress further then the NSWPL

Sydney Olympic FC have lost their first match in 2012 after a 1-0 friendly defeat vs Berries FC at Hensley Athletic Field on Sunday. An early goal to the NSW Super League outfit was enough to deliver the Blues their first defeat in friendly or competition matches in over six months. With a number of triallists missing from the match, including left-back David Dascal with hip bruising, French import Junior and Italian defender Valerio with a hamstring complaint removed from the starting eleven, the chance was wide open for those playing to impress the manager keen on finalising his squad for 2012. Fielding a now-familiar lineup starting for Peter Tsekenis’ side, the opening period saw Berries pressure on the ball rewarded with a goal while Olympic struggled to settle in greasy conditions on the artificial pitch. Central pairing Chris Triantis and Phil Makrys failed to ignite the Olympic engine to boss their lower-division opponents around, while strikers Aman Hadid and Marco Sama had very little of the ball to work with. No sooner it seemed that play had kicked off did the referee blow for half time. After the break, Olympic were quick to pile on the pressure, winning a number of key set pieces and threatening in the air. With triallists Wood and Kiji brought on the Blues had a new threat to charge at the Berries backline with, and Peter Triantis’ inclusion for Makrys saw an improvement in their passing game through midfield. But, with Berries happy to sit on their one goal cushion, chances were at a premium at both ends right until the final whistle. Sydney Olympic striker Marco Sama was not too discouraged despite the loss, and mentioned that the Berries preseason was drawing to a close much sooner than the Premier League side. “They play in just a few weeks, you’d expect them to be at that level,” he said. “We still are a month away and while we didn’t play so well today, we have a month to prepare.” When asked on his move from Marconi Stallions u20s to First Grade with Sydney Olympic, the 20 year-old seemed happy enough with his progress. “It’s something that you have to be able to read the play better,” Sama said, “but I just play to my strengths. The prolific striker was keen to point out that alertness in the role up front is key to success. “It’s very important to be sharp on the ball as a striker,” pointed out Sama, adding that “I have good teammates that support my play and make it easy for me to distribute as well. “I enjoy playing at number 9 or number 10, I’m just happy to be on the park in a professional setup.” www.olympicultras.com.au/news/122

Olympic will be ok. Remember, trial matches are not about the results, but are there for the coaching staff to be able to experiment with players to see if they can play out of position if needed and other tactical trials. We'll know what Olympic can do after the first round of the NSWPL.

SOFC handed their first defeat in 2012 Pre-Season posted by on March 5, 2012 Sydney Olympic FC obtained their first loss in their 2012 Pre-Season campaign on Sunday afternoon, after NSW Super League side Bankstown Berries FC delivered an early blow to the 'Blues', within the opening 10 minutes of the game. With several trialists sidelined due to injury, Sydney Olympic FC experimented and tweaked their starting line-up. Injured trialists, Valerio and David Dascal were replaced with youngster ,Troy Danaskos who filled the vacancy at left-back for the 'Blues'. The 'Blues' began the 1st half on the back foot and struggled to maintain consistency and momentum in the opening minutes of the 1st half. Poor clearances and school-boy errors were capitalised upon by the Berries who netted an early goal. After conceding the early goal, Olympic attempted to apply pressure on their opponent and despite hard work and adequate build-up play, the 'Blues' failed to deliver the finishing product. David Gullo troubled the Berries and used his pace to win several corners for the 'Blues', which were unfortunately not capitalised upon. With, the 'Blues' unable to maintain possession in the centre of the park, much pressure was placed on Olympics' defence who took advantage of the offside trap and ceased their opposition's attack. Berries goalkeeper, Nestor Tsioustas did well to thwart Olympics' attempt to equalise in the closing minutes of the half and prevented new recruit Aman Hadid from getting on the scoreboard. Sydney Olympic looked to the bench at the half-time break and made several substitutions. Aman Hadid, Marco Sama and Will Angel were replaced with trialists Joel Wood, Yuichi Yamauchi and Sam Awad. Sydney Olympic captain Phil Makrys made way for the 'burglar', Peter Triantis, who was given some much needed game time upon his return from injury. Sydney Olympic were by far the most dominant side in the 2nd stanza and enhanced their high pressing game. Defender, Ibby Haydar had perhaps the best goal scoring opportunity for the 'Blues' early in the half, but sent his header over the cross bar. Trialists Joel Wood and Sam Awad looked confident for the 'Blues' and appeared to have created a great partnership upfront whilst Japanese trialist, Yuichi also troubled the Berries defence and created numerous problems for the opposition on the right flank. The inclusion of Reserve Grade player Brendan Hooper and young striker Zakeriya Elrich lifted the tempo for the 'Blues' yet the score line remained at a stand still. Torrential down pour continued to plague Hensley Athletic Field and unsettled the playing conditions, as several mistimed tackles and questionable fouls were recognised. Trialists, Wood and Awad each had an opportunity to equalise for the 'Blues', but the Berries managed to hold on to their lead and provided the 'Blues' with their first defeat since the end of the scheduled 2011 NSW Premier League Season. www.sydneyolympicfc.com/news/2012/03/05/sofc-handed-their-first-defeat-in-2012-pre-season/

I was there. Our boys weren't too interested. I never pay attention to trials, win or lose. The Berries have a good team as well. The game wasn't played with too much intensity from both teams. It poured in the second half as well just to make it miserable for everyone at the ground. Good luck to the Berries. Olympic will lift when the comp starts.
