Sydney Olympic is proud to announce Peter Tsekenis as the 1st grade coach for 2011. After a long period of negotiations, the Board of Sydney Olympic and Peter came to a final agreement a few hours ago and together with his assistant Peter Papouthis they will be in charge of the 1st grade team of Sydney Olympic the coming season.

Peter was very excited after signing his new contract and mentioned to the Sydney Olympic media staff:

"We are very happy to be here, I have had the chance to play here, I was the captain of Sydney Olympic and now a coach of the Club." After Peter Raskopoulos, Peter Tsekenis is the only the second person that has achieved this.

"After my discussion with the President of the Club, Mr George Giannaros I realized that the Club is moving in the right direction and it is time that we also do all we can to support the Board of Sydney Olympic and take this Club back where it belongs, at the top tier of Australian football."

"Personally, I see this as an opportunity as I can see all the positive steps the Club has made this past season and I want to give something back to the Club that I have supported and loved since I was a kid. Its time for all of us to do what we can to support our Club and bring back some credibility to the blue and white jersey."

"I will be assisted again this season by Mr. Peter Papoutsis and we are still discussing with people to finalize our coaching team for next season. Our main focus is to get the players understand what jersey they are wearing and the history of Sydney Olympic, so all together we can bring back the pride of the Club."

The Board of Sydney Olympic would like to wish Peter and his assistant all the best with the new role they have took on and they will be supported by Sydney Olympic office staff and Board of Directors throughout the period they are employed by the Club.

It is a great opportunity to work closely with a well known coach that the Board believes can deliver to this Club and meet the expectations of our supporters.

More details on Peter Tsekenis will be uploaded on our website in the next few days and ways to communicate with our first grade coach will also be announced shortly.

This is great news. I think he has shown more than enough to be given the reins.

Let's just hop the is given all the help he needs and that includes clickes and agendas being shot down asap and let Tseka prove his value (good or bad) by his own decisions.

I will give my answer below as to why:

1) I don't like his coaching style, Bankstown has played like ruthless hacks with no respect for other players, challenges to other players legs sickens me.

2) I recall Tsekenis singing "Maecedonia" when they won the title a few years back. Shame the Youtube video of is gone.

3) This is Tsekenis's statement:

If he loved the club "SO" much, whe hasnt he:

Applied for the job years ago?
Why leave Bankstown now when he knows they are gone and is owned money?

In other words, Bankstown is his 1st choice, and Olympic is 2nd choice. If he loved Olympic so much as he claims, Olympic would have been first choice. I do not like mercenaries.

4) How often was Tsekenis at Olympic games when Bankstown was not playing at the same time? This is from someone who claims they 'love' Olympic.

5) Tsekenis, the PRIDE of Olympic has never left, only you.


They are my reasons why I will not be attending Olympic matches if Tsekenis is coach. No harsh feelings, no animosity, the choice is mine.

the biggest problem with olympic re jimmarra is when one greek doesnt get his way he walks, then other he walks.

Olympic people must learn sometimes we need to swallow our pride for the good of the club.

With regards to the Mkaedojojoniadia thing, would you rather ellinopoula coaching and playing for them or coming home to us?

i saw him 5 times at our games last year

tsekas style at bankstown may not have been pleasing to the eye but it won him competitions ... and after all is it the trophies and success that we want??

This is one thing that he and Flea and the other Greek players at Bankstown at the time should never had done. I also remember it vividly when they beat us in the Cup final. I don't mind these guys coaching or playing for them (even though I never would) but to celebrate politically like that and worse still in front of Olympic supporters is a low low act.

I know them personally and I don't have any trouble saying it to their faces.
