I was at ES Marks field when a fan of Sydney City Hakoah who was with a gang of skin head punks got smart with an older Olympic fan and it was on. The skin heads shit themselves. The police stepped in before it got out of hand. I've never seen a skin head voluntarily stay so close to a policeman while he was being ESCORTED out of the ground with some of his fellow skin head mates. We called him everything under the sun and he didn't even react. He and his mates shit themselves.

mini,
100%. One in particular was a real arsehole. I even had a " disagreement " with him. One of them was Greek as well. He was running for his life at another games. I can't remember where now, maybe Pratton Park. He swore at us in Greek and when the Olympic fans realised he was Greek they wanted to kill him. Again the skin heads courage failed them and off they bolted.

I use to go to high school with one of the skin heads. He was 1 year ahead of me and not a bad bloke. I remember most of them switched to St George when Hakoah pulled out. There was always some tension and abuse with the skin heads behind the goals at St George Stadium next to the TV tower whenever Olympic played Hakoah. The good old days.
For those of you who are older will also remember the tension in the crowd whenever we played Preston and the day when they was a riot of sorts at St George Stadium against them and police had to be called so the game could continue.

Another time ( I love this club ) we had a home game at Wentworth Park. The MIGHTY Panhellenic were playing. I can't remember when or who. The referee really upset our fans and someone yells out " OLI MESSA PETHA " We stormed the field. Not me . I was only a boy and was told " esi Katse ethor, mi kounithis " . They were jumping the dog track fence like olympic athletes and heading for the ref. All the players were surrounding the ref. I was told later that the ref was a Turk but I don't know if that is true. Officials and police were running everywhere and trying to control the Greeks. What a day. Honestly, as a young kid I was scared that the cops were going to start hitting our fans, ( stuff the ref ) but no one was touched and all the officials got the crowd under control. You should have seen some of the older Panhellenic fans after. " Kala tou kaname, to pousti, Tha ton gamisume ". As bad as it was, I was really proud of them, the ref had it out for us. One thing I also remember is a couple of police who approached our fans and ordered them back over the fence were shocked when the Greeks stopped screaming and calmly walked back and jumped back over the fence without any trouble. Some of the police were giggling when that happened.

Years ago, During a Panhellenic game at Wentworth Park an entire wedding party turned up after the church ceremony. Bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen, all in full dress. The groom was the late Peter Varvaressos. One of the most fanatical Panhellenic people that ever lived. He loved them with a passion. After the game the wedding party went to the reception and enjoyed the rest of the wedding. This made the papers.
