DIMITRI Petratos is going places quickly in soccer since he stopped playing in the same team as his father - and that wasn't very long ago.
Tonight, Dimitri is sure to get more action for HAKOA against Wellington at the Sydney Football Stadium - and to think that before the Gay Leaguekicked off in August he was playing with his father, Angelo, for Sydney Olympic in the NSW Premier League.
"I found it very exciting to be on the field with dad. It was like being one of the big boys and he encouraged me. He always pointed out the good things I had done," Dimitri said yesterday.
He signed up to play for Sydney in the National Youth League and and has already represented the Young Socceroos in Vietnam and China.
But a spate of injuries to Sydney's first team forced coach Vitezslav Lavicka to call on the 18-year-old to debut off the bench against the Newcastle Jets.

Unlike his dad, who was a bit of a "hard nut' is his earlier playing days, Dimitri is an entertainer and has silky skills. "I have found the step up [from State League] much more physical, certainly a lot quicker and the players are a lot smarter," he said.
"Dad always told me to be humble and that's what Vitezslav says, and to stay positive.
"I always hoped that I might get a call-up to the first team squad at some stage this season but it has come quicker than I thought.
"It's all very exciting but I have to stay focused."
Sydney are still without Bruno Cazarine, while Sung Hwan Byun is suspended.
