APIA Tigers 1–3 Sydney Olympic
posted by on February 28, 2011
On Sunday 27 February 2011 Sydney Olympic played against APIA Tigers at Nineveh field due to Lambert Park being unavailable the third trial game of the season, just a month before the competition officially commences.
Sydney Olympic dominated the first half of the game and our midfielders seemed to strong for APIA and the two goals from Husky Akil and Phil Makrys with a penalty. Our defense line with Ibrahim Haydar, Emmanuel Giannaros, Bill Tsanidis and Billy Darwich worked very well together and our goalkeeper Nenad Vekic had a quiet first half.
In the first 15 minutes of the second half APIA pushed to get a goal and they were successful in the 62nd minute of the game. Olympic boys picked up after the goal and took over the game once again.
Strong performance by our midfielders with Markys, Alex Smith and the Triantis brothers dominating in most of the game. Up front William Angel and Husky Akil played one half each and with their speed created opportunities for Olympic but Tod Bamber with his goal in the 80th minute of the game took most of the credit and showed that he will be a valuable player for the team in the 2011 season.
Once again a promising performance by our Club that excited the fans that attended the game. The coach was happy with the performance but also made useful notes on points that he needs to work on during training.
The Under 20s team lost 3-0 to APIA in a game that the coach tried various formations and trialed his players in different positions and made useful notes on weak points he needs to work on during training.
Next weekend the 1st grade team will be taking part in the Charity Cup, with more details to be announced on our website in the coming days.
