I stand corrected. What is the compensation actually paied to the clubs for the move from NSWPL to A-league? As it stood a couple of years ago, the transfer fee is 50% of the outstanding professional contract to the player. Example: Joe signed a 1 season contract (30 weekly payments) with Olympic. Contract is $400 per week + $100p/w training and $300win/$150 draw bonus. With 3 weeks to go on his contract, he signs a MoU with HAKOA. HAKOA want him immediately. HAKOA contacts Olympic and asks Joe to be released from his contract. Olympic agree. By FFA law, the max transfer fee Olympic can ask is $600. ($400 x 3 weeks = $1,200*50% = $600.) The development fee is separate to this. I believe if a player signed his first paid (professional) contract before 21y.o, the club can claim part or all of $3,000, depending on how many other clubs in his past also had him on a paid contract. The fact that the NSWPL and HAL run in separate seasons mean HAL can snatch players for virtually nothing at the end of the NSWPL season. One thing I do need clarification on is whether 1 season contracts are mandatory by FNSW. I know players don't like to sign contracts for more than a season as they want to shop around for a better deal each year, and they don't want a transfer price on their heads if the Gay Leaguecomes calling. |
