You all know what im talking about. This goes for Syd Utd, Marconi, and to a lesser extent Melita, APIA, and also the clubs down in Victoria
In the NSL
Olympic had excellent support the Olympic Army and the guys before them the Olympic hooligans would go everywhere and out number and out sing at away games.
The NSL was then killed, but I remember the 1st season back in the NSWPL was great. Olympic played APIA at Lambert Park 8000 were there about 6000 Olympic fans APIA hadnt seen a crowd like that for 15 years at Lambert, 10,000 at Kogarah to play the Bankstown Skops it was pumping big time.
Then the realisation came that Olympic weren't going to be in thw a-league, the next season in the NSWPL was okay but then dropped off dramatically after that.
A few Olympic fans go and watch Sydney Hakaoh/FC not many but a few, 1000-2000 still come to most games in the NSWPL. The vast majority were/are disheartened to see where Olympic play these days after the halcyon days of the club when it was the biggest soccer team in Sydney, and simply have resigned to the fact that Olympic is essentially a park team now and dont follow soccer at all in Australia.
Last year particularly in the finals and Grand Final a lot of people came to see Olympic in a big game again and it was good to see. If Olympic ever get in the Gay Leagueor an Gay Leaguediv 2 or an FFA Cup a lot of them will come back

If the Club was not so close to financial ruination, and we came top 4 in the first season of 2 of being in the NSWPL, we would be averaging 2000 people. However, after the Club nearly folding and continuously going bad in the competition, a lot of people lost interest.

Huh? We were averaging 2000 two years ago when we finished second last No way that we were averaging 2000. We had one or two matches which was around that mark but the vast majority was lower. I'd say ther average was around the 1000-1400 mark. Regardless of these statistics, Olympic has won the NSWPL title, and if we start strong this coming season I think the crowds will pick up a little. I'm not going to claim that we are going to see anything huge, but the old Greeks who couldn't be bothered coming cause Olympic was doing poorly should come back. The last two seasons for me were pure foundation re-building. Olympic has wiped away most of the bad reputation that the club has been surrounded in and have made heaps of progress to re-engage the community and embrace new ideas and new support. This is the most important change that has come about the club. In previous years (with previous boards) there was a severe reluctance to change anything within the club structure or feeling. In a business sense, this is the worst thing that an organisation can do. Obviously time passes and the world changes, if a football club is reluctant to adapt to the new standards then it will quickly collapse. Ignoring Sydney United and the other NSL teams which are in their respective state leagues, Sydney Olympic has accepted it's fate for the time being, but have set a target to gain accession to the A-league. There are some people on this forum who firmly believe that it won't happen and there are others from different clubs who say that they prefer their own clubs in the NSWPL because it's more secure and they are losing less money. That is all well and good, but I do not believe that gaining entry into the Gay Leagueis impossible, it's only a matter of time. I have said above and we would all agree that time passes and the footballing climate changes. There is nothing to say that the climate won't change again in favour of our club/s. Olympic is merely positioning the club in a way which will make our entry as easy as possible when the time comes, which is not a bad thing at all. If the board believe that they can run the club with the budget which the Gay Leaguedemands then who are we to challenge them. We aren't backing the club financially and we aren't losing any money. One thing which every member of our forum needs to remember is that if you do not set a target, then you will never achieve it because you'll never work towards it. I believe that Olympic should be in the A-league. Whether we can be there right this minute can be debated, but in the future we will return to the top flight, and if the board continues on the path that they have chosen then the club will only be progressive and will end up as the standard bearer for all the old NSL teams. Olympic will be making the statement; "Yes we can".

We were talking about the year before. The year we were second last and had bigger crowds than last year when we won. Where we averaged 1800-2000 instead of 1250 last year.

I think Olympic has a massive oppurtunity to engage the Lebanese community in and around where the club is based. I personally saw heaps at the games last year
And with a few more Lebanese guys joining the squad this season I hope the club can engage them
PS How did the facebook page jump from 2000 to nearly 4000 in a week

Relax, its a suggestion
We all know if the Greek community in Sydney comes back to Olympic we can easily average 10k in the a-league
Olympic isnt getting into the Gay Leagueif it cant demonstrate that non Greeks support Olympic and come to games (I saw plenty of non Greeks at Olympic's home matches last year)
