mini. Thanks. anothermp, I don't like it when people come into this old club with their trendy ideas. Especially ideas that embarrass the club. If you don't like what I write, don't read it. Yes, I am furious about this issue. I don't need to quote from the bible. If another club did the the same, I'd say " what a bunch of malakes ". But no, we have some trendy people at Olympic who think they are smart and clever. Of course, I'm old fashion. Just because I didn't want my club to march in some parade that we have no business being in. My don't you wear a shirt next year with your name on it and march with them to show support.

Most importantly, what has the club gained from this?

Most importantly, what has the club gained from this? This! The arguments in favour or against homosexuality aside. What has this stunt achieved for our club? I had never heard of any anti-homosexual behaviour at Olympic on any level, so I don't understand why this was organised. If it was a publicity stunt then I want to know why.

They wanted to try and get a bit of publicity for Olympic, which is commendable
But in the end it achieved nothing, but at least the people running the club are having ideas about spreading the Olympic word, lets hope they come up with better ones in the future

Good points mini and blaze, imo the issue here is that Olympic has been able to use the Mardi Gras, which is a world recognised festival, to promote gender and sexual equality in sport.
While I may not personally agree with peoples life choices and am not gay myself (sorry ellina4lyf to disappoint!) but in the western world its generally accepted that gender and sexual equality are to be respected and promoted. Our club has done that and made the papers for making a bold move.
I encourage people that have a problem with that to contact the club and get involved. The club can't assume what people think and want, if its members communicate then the assumptions don't have to be made. This communication is a two way process.

I am from Sparta. Homosexuality may have been promoted in our society but if it wasn't for us - all of Europe would now be eating falafels with baba ganoush. (Not that there is anything wrong with that

(Not that there is anything wrong with that You may want to research that further. Homosexuality was punishable by death in Sparta and all of Greece. The Ancient Greeks used to refer to homosexuals and pederasts as "Κιναίδος" Kinaidos, root: Kinon tin Aido, meaning: Person of disgust. The word that described them and it's meaning tells us that homosexuality was far from promoted in Anceint Greece. I also got this from an information site on Greece: Στην αρχαία Ελλάδα το να είσαι ομοφυλόφιλος είχε τις εξής επιπτώσεις: Δεν μπορούσε να γίνει ένας απο τους 9 άρχοντες In ancient Greece, if one was homosexual it had the following repercussions: One may not be one of the 9 Governors of the city stateΟύτε ιερέας One may not be a PriestΟύτε δικηγόρος δημοσίων δικώνή να καταλάβει οποιαδήποτε εξουσία, είτε εντός της πόλεως είτε έξω απο τα όριά της,είτε με κλήρο είτε με εκλογή One may not be a legal council either in internal affairs or external affairs, hold any position of power or represent the city state in diplomatic meetings abroad, either elected or appointed.Ούτε να μυηθεί στα ιερά μυστήρια One may not take part in religious proceedingsΟύτε να στέλνεται ώς κύρηκας One may not be used as messengerΟύτε να λέει τη γνώμη του(η γνώμη του σε δίκες είχε μηδενική αξία) One may not give his opinioin (Evidence given by homosexuals was worthless)Ούτε να μετέχει σε δημόσιες θρησκευτικές τελετές One may not take part in public religious celebrationsΟύτε να φοράει στεφάνι στις δημόσιες στεφανοφορίες One may not wear a laurel wreath during public wreath wearing celebrationsΟύτε να περιφέρεται στην δημόσια αγορά (αυτό ισχύει για αυτόν που ήταν «δηλωμένος» ομοφυλόφιλος). One may not take part in public debatesΟ παραβάτης των παραπάνω τιμωρείτο με την ποινή του θανάτου. Ο ομοφυλόφιλος στην αρχαία Ελλάδα δεν είχε πολιτικά και ιερατικά δικαιώματα. The consequence of breaking the above laws is death by poison. Homosexuals in Ancient Greece had no political or religious rights.

From Greek wikidictionary.

My opinion is that it shows a good initiave by the club to embrace diversity to show that we respect everyone but most importantly it shows the FFA that were not just some nationalistic club that only accepts straight white Greeks we embrace anyone that chooses to follow Olympic & we engage the community
Like I said a few times if a huge European club like Ajax can send a message that they won't tolerate homophobia why can't Olympic as well?!
++ It shows the LGBT community that it's OK to come down & watch Olympic if they wish & at the end of the day that's what we want more fans= more capital simple..
