So whats happened?
I believe it is a combination of things.
1. The people who supported the club whose fathers and uncles took them to pratten park, St George Stadium, Leichhardt, who are now between their mid 30s to late 40s have stopped going to games. 2. The kids of these people weren't taken to watch Olympic every week like it was a tradition in the 70s, 80s to mid 90s. 3. The ending of the NSL disenfranchised a lot of people and split them into: people who still go to games, people who still love Olympic but dont go to matches, people who know of Olympic but dont know what they are doing currently and instead focus on EPL and other European Leagues and a big number of people who love watching the NRL and those who go to HAKOA matches (which i believe is the smallest of these groups). 4. There has been a break in the continuation of the Olympic story where kids who are 12-18 y.o dont even know of Olympic and never heard of them or been taken to a game before.
What do the others think?

Most of those guys think its play to support two teams and give the example like supporting Man Utd in EPL and Torquay in League 2 or some shit
OLYMPIC IS NOT A SMALL CLUB YOU CUNTS we are 2 times and 2 times more than Sydney United NSL champions and the biggest team in Sydney

I've had a few people tell me they'll never go to another Olympic game because their kid wasn't picked at the trials. I've being told "Olympic are rubbish and corrupt ". The problem is, these people tell everyone they know and the rumours spread. I know parents who's kids used to play for Olympic that have never been back to a game again. In a small community like ours you always here bad things about Olympic.

was in marrickville last week speaking to the local businesses and the locals floating about..
asked if they still went to Olympic games, "no"..
then asked, "but do you still love Olympic?" at least half the people I spoke to either wanted to punch the wall or cry, none of them could lie and they they didnt.
OLYMPIC LIVES

Olympic was never corrupt in that sense of the word. People putting money into the club back in the day pocketed the revenue instead of investing in a club or ground, things which are difficult to do in the current climate Olympic finds itself in.
The people running the club when it was profitable in the 80s and 90s fucked it for the rest.
I'll also say that the Greek community of Sydney isnt the same as in Melbourne where there are 350,000-400,000 Greeks, where as Sydney has 150,000-200,000, 12000 at a state league G.F bearing in mind there was plenty of Sydney United fans also, with Fuck all promotion or knowledge the game was even on, is a great effort and shows the potential of Olympic still in 2012.

Boys I played for Olympic from under 13s all the way up to reserve grade ..... I stopped playing for them in 2001/2 when 1st grade won the grand final in Perth . When parents say olympic is corrupt I would have to slightly agree with them. However it is NOT Olympic who was corrupt it was the fuck wits in the club at the time... I could tell you guys stories and you would freak out. So I feel sorry for the parents and players that copped shit over the years from those Malakes. But it was our fault as Greeks, because we love the club so much we would not go and play anywhere else. If we did it would of been better for our soccer careers.

ps,
You are right, it's not the club. I personally know a kid that got absolutely shafted by a real jerk at Olympic. About 5yrs ago. He asked me my advise at the time. I told him to move on and remember it's not the club's fault. He went to Parramatta. His father is a mate of mine and we still go to watch Olympic together. That jerk at the club is long gone now. Still, if you listen to the Greek radio on the weekend, a lot of people hold a grudge. The truth is, not everybody can play for Olympic. My son trialled but he was never picked, that's life. I would have been really proud to have my son play for Olympic but we have no hard feelings. We are Olympic boys till the end.

I trialled and didn't make it, but I'm still at belmore supporting the club. The reason why I trialled was because I love the club, I didn't love the club because I thought I'd make it. Big difference between the two.

The sad thing is 70% of those kids were never good enough, only 5% went on to bigger things.
Thats the truth

Guys, I have to say that I held a grudge. From 2002 I did not go regularly to the games ( maybe one game a year) . It was only until last season mid season I started coming back regularly. Look you say you can't hold a grudge but if your a very good player with if given the chance could make it, but instead you are left on the bench every week or even the grand stand because a certain player who was a first grader but was shit and never got picked for first grade and got dropped every week to reserve grade because his father was on the Greek radio and sponsorships ... Another classic a player got a first grade contract because his mother was a famous tennis player and won Wimbledon . Another one the boys were so shit but because their fathers would give sponsorships to the club, run after the balls at training, run the canteen every week for the juniors and in the committee.... Another classic , "someone in Olympic" that used to handle the player contracts would pay these shit players $20k per year, however the players never got a cent, the bank details were this certain someone's . But nobody had the balls to speak out back then. But now that I'm older I don't give a fuck. I am back supporting my club and all these guys that were fucking the club have disappeared . However if I ever saw any of these pricks at the ground I will be the first to say something in public in front of everyone.
