Zeljko Kalac (L), Andrew Christopoulos (C) & Stephen Hayes (R)
The Board of Football NSW on Wednesday evening appointed three new directors to the helm with Stephen Hayes from Albury Wodonga Football Association filling in one of the casual vacancies, along with former Socceroo international Zeljko Kalac and Commercial and Legal expert Andrew Christopoulos as two of three allowed Appointed Directors.
Stephen Hayes
Recently awarded the prestigious George Churchward Medal, Hayes’ acquisition will bring a strong country and regional background to the board of Football NSW. His involvement with football in Albury Wodonga for over 35 years as a player, coach, referee, mentor, sponsor, clothing marketing and committee member at club, association and branch level has been the many qualities Hayes has established throughout his time in football.
Zeljko Kalac
Having represented the Socceroos 54 times and playing for the likes of clubs such as Italian Serie A giants AC Milan, Perugia, Roda JC, Leicester City, Kavala and nurturing his skills with NSW Premier League side Sydney United, Kalac’s appointment brings together a wealth of experience as a player at international and state level to the board of Football NSW. Known for being one of the very few Australian footballers ever to lift a UEFA Champions League trophy as well as a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Championship, the 37-year-old’s success at football level will without doubt benefit Football NSW across all levels of the sport.
Andrew Christopoulos
Bringing together a legal and commercial background to Football NSW, Christopoulos’ selection especially in major areas of practice such as Sports Law and Entertainment and Media Law will help assist and aid Football NSW in a number of key areas. Andrew is also an insurance industry specialist with experience in a wide range of litigation, including a number of precedent setting cases. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, the Australian Insurance Law Association and has a Bachelor of Law from Sydney University.
Football NSW President Jim Forrest very much welcomed the appointment of the three new directors.
“The three people bring with them a range of skills, perspectives and experience presently missing from the Board. The opportunity to have an experienced country person, the managing partner of a legal firm and one of Australia’s most experienced international players on the Board provides a strong new dynamic at Director level.”
All three directors have commenced their duties and responsibilities effective immediately with Football NSW wishing them all the best in their tenures on Board.
