Today at the Sydney Olympic Offices the Club announced the major sponsor of the women’s teams for the 2011 season.



Nad’s Laser Clinic and officials from Sydney Olympic FC held discussions over the past few weeks to discuss the opportunity for both organizations from the new initiative of the Club to enter into the 2011 Football NSW Women’s Superleague and be part of the fastest growing sport in Australia (12.3%) that has currently over 100.000 players.



At the Media Conference that was held the journalists present had the chance to meet Miss Effie Rodopoulos, the captain of the 1st grade team and the head coach of Sydney Olympic Mr Enzo Calabria that mentioned: “I am extremely excited to be the head coach of Sydney Olympic first grade that will participate in the Football NSW Super League. I am proud to be here and I can see it in the eyes of the girls that they are also overwhelmed by the opportunity that has been given to them to be part of Sydney Olympic FC.



Effie Rodopoulos mentioned: I have been playing football since I was 8 years old at all levels from Club level up to Premier League. There has been great development is women’s football since I started playing. This year even though I was asked to play in a number of Premier League Clubs I preferred to play in the Super League as I wanted to be part of history and play for Sydney Olympic FC. Our aim this season is to reach the semis and do our best to get into the Premier League in the coming seasons.



Peter Phillips, Sydney Olympic Director and Secretary was present on behalf of the Club and mentioned to the Media: “We have put many hours of hard work to put together the Women’s team for next season. We are proud to say now that we have been able to put together 5 very competitive teams that we are all looking forward to seeing in the 2011 Season. The Club is doing everything to broaden the appeal to everyone and is working on more exciting surprises for the future.



Amanda Matheson, Brand Manager and Anna Starks PR Manager of Nad’s represented the Sponsor and said to the media present: “We are thrilled to join the Sydney Olympic family. We met the Sydney Olympic officials a number of times during the past weeks and we were welcomed and very impressed with the set up. The female fraternity at Sydney Olympic was today buoyed by the announcement of Nads Laser Clinic as the principle shirt sponsor of the club’s women’s teams.

All of Olympic’s new female teams, from juniors right through to first grade, will sport the Nads logo. In a boost for women’s football across the board, the club will now include over 80 female footballers across five grades.

Olympic’s commitment to the women’s game was prompted by an unprecedented surge of female interest in the round ball code, a fact not lost on Marketing Manager Spiro Mavridis, who sees the club continuing its fine record of producing representative stars.

“For many decades Sydney Olympic hasn’t been in the women’s game and now we are, so we are attracting new people to the club,” he said.

“We’ve produced over 60 Socceroos and our job now is to produce Matildas. We’ve always developed players and we will put in strong measures to continue to develop women’s football.”

The club will participate in the Arrive Alive Women’s Super League for the first time in 2011, and new first grade coach Enzo Calabria was typically enthused.

“I am extremely excited to be the head coach of Sydney Olympic first grade that will participate in the Football NSW Super League,” he said.

“I am proud to be here and I can see it in the eyes of the girls that they are also overwhelmed by the opportunity that has been given to them to be part of Sydney Olympic FC.”

In recent years the club has endeavoured to create a family friendly, community-based environment with a view to broadening its appeal. Amanda Matheson, Brand Manager at Nads Laser Clinic, sees the new relationship as a perfect fit.

“We’ve been really welcomed with open arms by the team here. I think it’s a nice fit in terms of the family and community appeal that these guys have and that’s something that our company is very big on as well,” she said.

The Arrive Alive Women’s Super League will kick off in March 2011, finally joined by one of Australia’s oldest and proudest clubs. Don’t be surprised if they make a big splash.
