Sydney Olympic U15s qualify to the Semis of the Manchester United Cup posted by on February 28, 2011 Sydney OlympicU 15’s are through to the semi finals of the NSW Manchester Cup and will play Sutherland at 10am this Saturday at Seymour Shaw. The winner will play in the Grand Final verses the winner of Bankstown V Bonnyrigg. The winner of U15 NSW Manchester Cup will compete at the Pacific Finals of the Manchester United Cup in April in Melbourne. Saturday 26th February 11am Olympic’s first group game of the tournament saw them start strongly knocking over Bankstown 2-0. There was some beautiful football from Olympic. The defenders weaved through some tight Bankstown pressing and Benne Owusu was hard to beat in tackles. Olympic’s strikers combined superbly with some unselfish play. Osman Tengben was first to score in the 8th minute and Gandor Bah second in the 17th minute while Thomas Bonomy provided fantastic support. 4pm Olympics second group game of the tournament had them play against Fraser Park which ended 0-0. Olympic dominated possession and had many open chances to score. Jarred Kenny and David Illic were very effective in midfield in their switching of the ball. Sunday 27th February 11am Olympics third group game was against a fiery Sydney United which ended 0-0. Olympic again dominated possession and were equal to every Sydney United challenge. Defender Deen Khan was dominant in winning challenges and playing out from the back. Despite going down to 10 men in the second half Olympic continued to be a fort at the back, control possession and create opportunities up front. 4pm – Quarter Final Olympic beat Rockdale 1-0 in the quarter final. Olympic dominated possession with Abdul Zahara and Daniel Bonomy controlling the speed of play. In the 11th minute wing back Matteo Pandolfo scored from outside the box and despite being 1-0 up, Olympic strived for a second. Rockdale played the Route 1 game and defenders James Combes and Claudio Fabiano ate up every header that came their way while GK Luke Sheldrick picked up any long ball crumbs. Callum Fitzpatrick came on in the second half and was instantly effective in being forming passing combinations around him while striker Joey Faux was getting back to his best since coming back from injury in keeping the ball and linking up with the other strikers. Of note too was GK’s Luke Jones team spirit and positive attitude over the course of the weekend. Sydney OlympicU15’s win in the Quarter Final moves them to the semi finals of the U15 NSW Manchester Cup and will play Sutherland at 10am this Saturday at Seymour Shaw. The full draw and all details were published on our website on Friday and can be found HERE The Board would like to wish the boys all the best for their game this Saturday and we would like to urge all the Sydney Olympic fans inthe area to support the team. www.sydneyolympicfc.com/news/2011/02/28/sydney-olympic-u15s-qualify-to-the-semis-of-the-manchester-united-cup/
