The Olympic Ultras were in full voice as Sydney Olympic FC claimed victory in their first NSW Premier League match at their Belmore Sports Ground home in 2011.
A fantastic start to the game saw Olympic lead after just 2 minutes, with Phil Makrys converting from the penalty spot after Chris Triantis made a darting run through the box and was brought down.
The Wolves didn’t sit back though and equalised in an exciting contest midway through the first period, to send both teams level 1-1 at half time.
Olympic came back firing and Tod Bamber slotted coolly to restore the lead on the hour and bring the Blues another victory in the league, much to the delight of the 1400-odd fans that braved the weather.
The Olympic Ultras made plenty of noise with one of their biggest and loudest performances to date, much to the appreciation of the first grade team and to the awe of both the home and travelling fans.
After the match, Ultras favourite and first team ‘keeper Nenad Vekic came over in particular to congratulate the superb Ultras off-the-park performance to match the victory on the field.
“It was great to see so many Ultras, it had all been building up to this,” said a joyous Vekic.
“We are on top and today you boys kept chanting for 90 minutes, even when the rain came, even when they equalised, and the whole place was alight with the atmosphere.”
Sydney Olympic FC First Grade Coach Peter Tsekenis offered similar sentiments in stating that the entire team “were proud of you guys [the Ultras].
“The weather was bad but you guys kept singing. All the players were buzzing when you guys started singing.”
The Olympic Ultras congratulate the team on their impressive victory and look forward to roaring our support in Belmore Sports Ground next Sunday at 3pm against Blacktown City.
