Big Big Year coming up for the girls, after a up and down first season, which we all put in a lot of work to get the girls off the ground, we know are looking to build on that and push for promotion into the Premier League.
For three of the squads the coaches have been announced:
1st Grade & Reserve Grade - GEORGE BELTSOS (Played for Iraklis FC)
Under 16's - Jim Kyriacou & Chris Matsias
Sydney Olympic FC is proud to announce the appointment of the 2011 Women’s Reserve Grade Coach, George Beltsos as the 2012 Women’s Reserve Grade and Women’s 1st Grade coach.
George a former, footballer himself has various credentials and has a vast experience in coaching, having coached footballers since the year 2001 obtaining much success. George has coached both male and female footballers and says “it doesn’t matter who I coach, male or female, I coach players their [gender] makes no difference”.
George was happy with the success of the 2011 Women’s Reserve Grade team and observed a vast improvement throughout the season. “I am happy with the girls’ improvement, their first result was a 9-1 loss, however toward the end of the season the girls won and drew several games with top tier sides. The girls improved heaps” George said.
In the 2012 season George with undertake a difficult task in coaching two teams, the Women’s Reserve Grade and Women’s 1st Grade side. George recognises that it is a challenge, one that he certainly is up for. When asked what his goals were for the 2012 season, George answered “To see the girls enjoy themselves and improve and play good football and hopefully win their competitions”.
We wish George all the best in his new respective position as both the Women’s Reserve and 1st Grade Coach. We are confident that he will meet the expectations, of the Board, parents, players and fans of our Club.
Sydney Olympic FC is proud to announce the Sydney Olympic FC U/16’s coaching staff for the 2012 FNSW Women’s Super League competition. The 2011 Sydney Olympic FC U/16s Assistant Coach, Jim Kyriakou has been appointed as the Coach for the 2012 season and will be joined and assisted by the 2011 Sydney Olympic FC U/16s coach Chris Matsias who has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the 2012 competition.
Both Jim and Chris are passionate about women’s football and are proud to be given the opportunity to work together once again, with the Sydney Olympic FC under 16’s girls team. Jim said that “Chris and I are on the same page and we agree on pretty much everything. For us both to be involved again is a good thing for us [individually] and for the Club”.
Jim has been coaching for 8 years and recognises a difference between coaching boys and girls, admitting that it is more “challenging” to coach girls. “Patience is needed, however girls listen more than boys and take directions on board a lot more quickly” Jim said.
Jim recognised a huge challenge for the girls whilst Assistant coaching the Sydney Olympic FC Under 16’s side, in 2011, in what was the Club’s first season in the Women’s Super League. Jim recognises that the transition from park soccer to the Super League was difficult for his team at first, but later observed that the girls quickly adjusted to and got used to the transition.
Jim believes that enjoyment is paramount stating that one of his goals for the 2012 season is to ensure that the “girls enjoy themselves” during training and on the park. Jim also recognises that winning games is also essential and tells his players from the beginning to set a goal to win more games than be defeated. More importantly, both Jim and Chris strive and aim to develop their players into better footballers, a task which both men believe is essential
We wish both Jim Kyriakou and Chris Matsias the very best in their new respective positions as both the Sydney Olympic FC U/16s Coach and Assistant Coach in the 2012 season. We are confident that they will both meet the expectations, of the Board, parents, players and fans of our club.
