All I can say is its probably best not to mix alcohol and flares. I was at a Socceroos match - about 10 years ago now.
The guy in front of me was totally off his head - pissed as a fart. And he decided to light a flare. So off he went - the red flare went off.
All of a sudden about 4 cops run towards him. His equally pissed mate says to him "cops man, fucken hide the flare" - (bright idea number 1 - hiding a lighted flare).
The guy with the flare - barely balancing on his feet such was his intoxicated hid the flare under his chair, and sat down pretending to watch the game (Bright idea number 2)
He was sitting there calm as, legs crossed, as the flare was going off under his seat - it looked like he was on fire.
The cops say "you - your coming with us" - the pissed guy replied "what for?"...Cop "the flare you lit"....pissed guy "its not mine"
Eventually the cops got manhandled him and took him away, the guy yelling "f*ck off, it wasn't f*cken me, its not my f*cken flare"

Prior to the match John Howard was introduced. The boos were unbelievable lol

ps also remember one game at Belmore back in the NSL days (cant remember who we were playing). Some guy lit a flare behind the goals and threw it - some how it happened to get stuck on the rafters/roof - and was smoking - the smoke drifting back down to the fans below. People either moved away or wrapped scards around their faces cos they couldnt breath or see the game!
