Inter Lions v Sydney Olympic Women Trial Games Results
posted by on February 14, 2011
Sydney Olympic women teams had trial games this weekend against a Premier League Club and the differences between the teams were evident throughout the age groups.
A learning curve for all our teams, playing with a much stronger side that competes in a higher level competition.
Reports on the games can be found below:
Under 12s girls
Half time: Inter Lions 3 Sydney Olympic 1
Full time: Inter Lions 5 Sydney Olympic 2
The 12 girls started off very slowly on Saturday, with Inter shooting to a 3-0 lead in the first half. The girls’ lack of cohesion was soon improved and when we kept possession created a few chances. Demi Karahlis looked dangerous, making a number of penetrating runs at Inter and we soon had an equalizer, an amazing shot from Hanna Hijazi from 25 meters out! There were soon good patches of play in the second half and Demi got the goal she deserved with some good lead up play from Cassandra Patrulovski. The match ended with Inter scoring and they were deserved winners.
Under 14s girls
Half time: Inter 2 Sydney Olympic 0
Fulltime: Inter 5 Sydney Olympic 0
The 14 girls were for the most part a step behind a very well drilled and experienced Inter side. There were a few good individual performances, in particularly Analise Limnios who despite the scoreline was solid and composed at the back. Cassandra Klun put her body on the line on more than one occasion and there is plenty the team must learn from this to move forward and improve.
Under 16s girls
Half time: Inter 2 Sydney Olympic 1
Fulltime: Inter 4 Sydney Olympic 1
It was a difficult game with a very good team, but we gained more positives of the game rather than negatives. The coaching staff were happy with the team overall performance.
More work will be done and every week the team will become better and better.
Reserve Grade Women
Half time: Inter 5 Sydney Olympic 1
Fulltime: Inter 9 Sydney Olympic 1
This week we versed a polished and organized team and our girls played at a higher standard having trained hard and learnt a few lessons from their match against Ravens the week before which was the introduction into Super League for most of our Reserve players.
The girls were able to hold Inter back for the first 15 minutes of the game not allowing them to score until then. At 20 minutes Brooke Biar scored our only goal of the match with the help of some lovely team work from Vanessa Panijani and Chloe Robinson. Unfortunately Inter scored again moments later putting them back in the lead.
Although we are still working on positioning, our Captain Gillian McElarney is extremely reliable and Vanessa Penijani very solid in defense.
The development of play by our girls in the two trial matches played so far is noticeable. Each player did a great job on the weekend, if they can continue to improve and develop skills at this rate we will be in for a very successful first season.
1st Grade Women
Half time: Inter 3 Sydney Olympic 0
Fulltime: Inter 8 Sydney Olympic 0
The 1st grade Women’s team encountered a superior Inter Lions team on the weekend, which totally outclassed the girls in all aspects of the game and that’s something that was expected from the coaching staff, from a team which were the Grand Finalists in the Premier league last season, but it was part of the learning curve for our new team for the 2011 season.
Sydney Olympic still were competitive and didn't lose shape but goals were hard to come. The Girls still were determined to play to the final whistle which showed courage and the emphasis "not to give up" was clearly displayed till the last minute of the game.
Well done to both sides on a good trial match and many points for the coaching staff to improve.
Details of the next trial game for the girls teams next weekend, will be announced on our website shortly.
