Older Olympic supporters will know that South Melbourne supporters treated Olympic and its supporters like shit despite both being Greek backed teams. They thought the sun shone out of their backsides. I know of many Greeks in Sydney going to watch Sth Melb when they played in Sydney to support a Greek team if Olympic was playing interstate. I doubt if any Sth Melb supporters went to watch Olympic when they were playing in Melbourne. Although I never personally went to Melbourne to see them play Sth Melb, I have heard countless stories of Sth Melb supporters spitting and abusing Olympic fans.
It still burns them the 6-0 thumping we gave them when they came back from the World Club Championship and they were carrying on about how well they played against bigger teams. I have never seen Olympic rip a team apart like they did that day. For those of you who were at the game, if the scoreline was 10-0 to Olympic it still would not have done justice to Olympic's performance that day.
Older supporters will also know they were happy for us to get relegated in 1979 (I think year is correct) even though we finished higher on the table. The rule that year was the lowest NSW based NSL team got relegated. If they were friends they would have said it is an injustice and they should go down.
